Richie Hawtin•Resident

Richie Hawtin is an electronic futurist and maverick whose critical acclaim runs from the fine art community to the techno vanguard. As a DJ he leads polls by the likes of Resident Advisor and DJ Magazine and has changed the direction of the art form via his innovations with technology and performance. He’s an artist constantly pushing frontiers, moving things forward, welcoming as many as he can to ideas that would have seemed pure science fiction when he began his career. His incredible ENTER. extravaganza at Space, Ibiza, a five-room adventure boasting all-night dancing but, as importantly, a Sake Bar serving specially created Sake’s for the nights, and a glowing Mind Room of abstract electronica. For 14 summer weeks, over 7,000 gather, drawn by the power of “the dot”. ENTER.’s black spot logo – part total eclipse, part minimalist art, and all marketing genius – covers the white island, from temporary tattoos to beach balls. Hawtin brings the best to ENTER.’s dancefloor: Sven Vath, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Paco Osuna, Tale Of Us, Dubfire, Dixon, tINI, Maya Jane Coles, Luciano, Recondite, Gaiser and on and on at the same level of quality. Naturally he gives them Richie Hawtin too, the DJ who brings techno out to party, and who astounded with his ‘Decks/FX’ mix series. Hawtin is also the mind behind Plus8 and M_nus Records, nurturing talent from Speedy J in the early ‘90s to Gaiser in the 2010s. And, of course, he is Plastikman, electronic musician par excellence, maintaining an underground agenda over six albums (and two compilations). He returned to the live circuit in 2010 with Plastikman 1.5 which innovated among the new EDM generation of Skrillex, Deadmau5, etc, stars to whom Hawtin is a hero. And in 2013, he remodelled the show for the Guggenheim in New York – at the request of designer Raf Simons from Dior. Hawtin’s close association with Sven Väth and his residences at Väth’s Cocoon nights in Ibiza began his love affair with the island, culminating in his own concept ENTER. which was launched in 2012. Nowadays Richie Hawtin’s position as a statesman for dance music is secure and with ENTER. 2014, a packed M_nus release schedule, exciting new technology plans, a Plastikman live show at Sonar and with a host of ambitious other plans, Richie Hawtin will, as ever, be pushing forward towards whatever comes next…
